What Does PropTrak Do? It is an electronic version of the proposal coversheet containing administrative data - it does not currently contain the text of the proposal. It will eventually be the way you enter your entire proposal and transmit it to the funding agency.

Why does a Principal Investigator have to finalize? PIs are making various certifications as well as providing answers to conflict of interest questions pertinent to their specific research and this specific proposal when finalizing.
Can I fill out all the information for a Principal Investigator? Yes, anyone with a Columbia ID(UNI) can initiate a PropTrak entry for a proposal. The PI will then need to log into Rascal only once to finalize the information that has been entered for the proposal.
Can I log into RASCAL as my Principal Investigator and finalize the proposal for him/her?

No, because certain certifications and conflict of interest information can only be provided by the PI, and University policy prohibits the sharing of University IDs (UNIs) or passwords. See info here ->

Blue Arrow Button
Can I make a template or copy of my work? Yes, you can use the "copy" link in the left frame to make a template of the proposal tracking information that has been entered for a proposal. The copy will be assigned a new ID (TrakID). We suggest you make note of the TrakID or change the title to read something like: "My template for my NIH grant"... so that you can find it the next time you need it.
What happens if I finalize and then realize I need to change some information? Call your Sponsored Projects Office and request that your PropTrak submission be "definalized". Make your changes and the PI can finalize again.
What if I'm not going to be in town when I need to finalize my proposal? RASCAL is available via the web anywhere in the world including internet cafes and your traveling lap top. If you have internet access for your email, you have access to RASCAL. If you need help call (212) 851-0213 or, send us an email -> Blue Arrow Button
When I add a person's UNI to the personnel or approver section, I get "nameunknown" This means that the person has never logged into RASCAL. When they initially log into any module in RASCAL the first screen that comes up will prompt them for their name, etc. Once their name is saved in RASCAL, it will appear correctly.
